Issued during the reign of Sigurd I Jorsalfar, Norway's first crusader king, this anonymous fraction circulated in a monetary system so rudimentary that coins were often cut into halves or quarters to make small change — the denomination itself being an attempt to rationalize what clipping had already made common practice.
