The lettering is arranged around the portrait in the manner characteristic of Goa Mint issues of the early eighteenth century. The coin exhibits an irregular, somewhat granular flan with a milled border. The overall execution reflects the artisanal hammered technique employed at the Goa Mint.

João V — flush with Brazilian gold revenue — nonetheless maintained the Goa mint's silver output to sustain Portuguese commercial credibility in the Estado da India, by then a shadow of its sixteenth-century dominance.
