Hari Hara II ruled Vijayanagara for nearly three decades and oversaw a significant expansion of the empire's territorial reach across the Deccan — his reign is one of the better-documented of the early dynasty, yet the coinage remains poorly studied in Western numismatic literature. The pagoda series served a functioning trade economy that connected the interior of the subcontinent with coastal markets trading everything from horses imported through Goa to textiles moving east.
The half denomination saw genuine circulation. Surface wear on surviving examples is typical evidence of active use in bazaar transactions, not ceremonial hoarding.
