Additional information

Israel's annual Hanukkah coin series, running since 1958, documents a different historical lamp type each year, drawing from museum collections and archaeological finds across the Jewish diaspora. The 1996 issue features a lamp style associated with early American Jewish communities — a reminder that the series is as much an exercise in ethnographic documentation as it is a coinage program. Production was handled by the Israel Mint in Jerusalem.
