The upper register contains the declaration of the unity of God and the prophethood of Muhammad; the lower register bears the acknowledgment of Ali as the Wali of God, a defining feature of Safavid-derived Zand coinage. The calligraphy is deeply struck and boldly rendered, filling the flan. The coin's irregular hammered flan is typical of mid-18th-century Iranian gold issues.
