Surrounding the primary inscriptions, the names of the Twelve Imams are integrated into the design in a characteristic Safavid devotional style. The hammered flan produces an irregular outline, with the inscriptions extending nearly to the rim on all sides. The calligraphy is deeply struck and displays the fluid, overlapping letterforms typical of early Safavid gold coinage. |
