Obverse description Central field dominated by the elaborate calligraphic tughra of Sultan Abdülmecid I, rendered in high relief in the Ottoman style. To the right of the tughra, a flowering branch with blossoms and buds rises gracefully, a characteristic decorative motif of the Tanzimat-era Ottoman coinage. The entire design is enclosed within a fine rope or cable border running along the inner periphery of the coin.
