| Beschrijving voorzijde | A rampant griffin facing left dominates the field, depicted with raised wings and clutching a sword in its right talon. The beast is rendered in bold relief typical of late 16th-century Baltic coinage. A circular Latin legend surrounds the central device, reading LIVONIAE · DVCATVS, proclaiming the Duchy of Livonia. The irregular flan and variable alignment are characteristic of hammered coinage of this period. |

Jan Hieronimowicz Chodkiewicz governed Livonia as Lithuanian starosta during one of the most unstable periods in the territory's history — caught between Muscovite pressure from the east and the competing claims of Poland-Lithuania, Sweden, and Denmark following the collapse of the Livonian Confederation in 1561. Coins struck at Dole Castle under his authority represent a brief window of semi-autonomous Lithuanian administration before the region was more firmly absorbed into the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth.
Dole, a fortified island position on the Daugava south of Riga, served as Chodkiewicz's administrative seat. Its mint output was limited and the series is genuinely scarce — Haljak's corpus documents very few die pairings for this denomination.
