Comments

Lübeck's Stadtkasse issued this half-mark notgeld in 1921, when the city was still operating under the peculiar administrative status it had held since 1866 — a free city within the German Reich, with its own Senate and fiscal institutions. The denomination is telling: half a mark was nearly worthless by late Weimar standards, and most municipal notgeld of this type had a circulation life measured in weeks before inflation rendered it irrelevant.

Joh. Moll R.-G. was a local Lübeck printer, not a specialist security firm, which is characteristic of the smaller notgeld issues produced entirely within the issuing municipality.
