The field is flat and unadorned, with the bust occupying the majority of the coin's surface. The coin bears the characteristic irregular flan and uneven strike typical of mid-seventeenth-century hammered billon coinage. |

The shield is elaborately mantled with foliate scrollwork at the base. A circular Latin legend surrounds the composition, reading · NOBILITAS · ESTENSIS ·, a motto referencing the nobility of the Este family. The crown above the shield is shown in detail with arched elements.
