| Popis líce | This half-jefimok represents approximately one half of a European thaler, cut to serve as a fractional denomination, with the Russian countermarks applied to the obverse field. Two rectangular date countermarks, each bearing the date 1655 in Latin numerals, are struck in the field flanking a central circular countermark depicting a horseman bearing a lance — the traditional Russian equestrian device associated with Tsar Alexey Mikhailovich. The underlying host coin retains visible elements of its original Frankfurt thaler type, including portions of the Latin legend around the periphery. The coin exhibits the characteristic irregular outline resulting from deliberate cutting, consistent with the 1655 monetary reform practice of countermarking and halving Western European thalers for circulation in Muscovy. |
