The escutcheon is set within a plain inner circle against a flat field. A continuous Latin legend surrounds the shield, reading ANDR CARD AB AVST MVRB ET LVTR ADMI, identifying Andreas of Austria as Cardinal and Administrator of Murbach and Lüders. The coin is struck within a beaded outer border typical of late sixteenth-century South German hammered coinage.
