| 裏面の説明 | The reverse bears a five-line Latin inscription filling the entire coin field, reading ESVRI / ENTEM / NE / DESPE / XERIS — a pious motto from Scripture meaning 'Despise not the hungry' (cf. Ecclesiasticus 4:2). The text is rendered in bold upright Roman capitals of uniform size, arranged in a stacked format framed by simple foliate flourishes at the sides and base. A beaded border encircles the design. The simplicity and directness of the reverse composition is typical of the smaller Papal States hammered silver denominations of the early eighteenth century. Varieties are distinguished by the number and arrangement of points above and below the inscription. |
