Obverse description The papal arms of Clement XI displayed on an ornate shield at center, surmounted by the papal tiara and crossed keys of Saint Peter, the emblems of pontifical authority. The Albani family coat of arms — featuring a diagonal band and a star — occupies the shield field. The legend CLEM٠XI٠ ٠PONT٠M (Clemens XI Pontifex Maximus) encircles the device, reading from right to left around the periphery. The entire design is enclosed within a beaded border. The style is characteristic of early eighteenth-century Roman hammered coinage.

Reverse description The reverse bears a five-line Latin inscription filling the entire coin field, reading ESVRI / ENTEM / NE / DESPE / XERIS — a pious motto from Scripture meaning 'Despise not the hungry' (cf. Ecclesiasticus 4:2). The text is rendered in bold upright Roman capitals of uniform size, arranged in a stacked format framed by simple foliate flourishes at the sides and base. A beaded border encircles the design. The simplicity and directness of the reverse composition is typical of the smaller Papal States hammered silver denominations of the early eighteenth century. Varieties are distinguished by the number and arrangement of points above and below the inscription.
