Obverse description Central field dominated by a large ornate Gothic H monogram of Hainaut, rendered in the form of a cross and enclosed within a sexfoil (hexilobe) frame with elaborate foliate cusps. The monogram is executed in a decorative Gothic style characteristic of 14th-century Flemish coinage. A beaded inner circle separates the central device from the surrounding legend. The circumferential Latin inscription runs clockwise between the beaded border and the outer rim, introduced by a cross pommée.
