| Beschrijving voorzijde | Central field features the heraldic eagle of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania displayed with wings spread, head turned to the right, rendered in the Gothic style characteristic of early Jagiellonian coinage. The eagle is depicted with elaborately feathered wings and talons, set within a beaded inner circle. The surrounding legend, separated by star-shaped ornaments, reads: + SIGIS ⋆ AVG ⋆ REX ⋆ P ⋆ MAG ⋆ DVX ⋆ L, identifying Sigismund Augustus as King of Poland and Grand Duke of Lithuania. The overall design is characteristic of the first eagle type struck at the Vilnius Mint under Sigismund II August. |
