| Reverse description | A bold long cross extends to the coin's rim, dividing the reverse into four equal quarters and separating a double circular legend. The inner legend ring and outer legend ring are both inscribed in Latin Gothic characters, referencing the mint city of Valenciennes and invoking the sign of the cross. The quarters of the cross are plain, with the arms of the cross forming a strong architectural presence characteristic of the hammered coinage of the County of Hainaut in the early fourteenth century. A beaded inner circle frames the central cross motif. |
