The quarters display letters alternating with fleur-de-lis or star-like ornaments, consistent with Flemish half-groot types of this period. The outer legend in uncial Gothic script reads B`nDIC T:Q:VE nIT:In nE:DI`, an abbreviated rendering of the Scriptural phrase Benedictum qui venit in nomine domini. A beaded border frames both the inner circle and the outer legend, typical of hammered billon coinage of 14th-century Flanders. |
