Obverse description Central field features the heraldic lion of Flanders rampant, depicted facing left with a crowned head, rendered in the Gothic style characteristic of 14th-century Flemish coinage. The lion is shown with raised forelegs and a curling tail, set within a beaded inner circle. The surrounding legend in uncial Gothic lettering reads LVDOVIC: DEI: G: COMES: FLAnD`, identifying Louis as Count of Flanders by the grace of God. The overall design is boldly struck in the hammered tradition, with the lion dominating the field in high relief.

Reverse description A bold double-armed cross, known as a cross pattée, divides the reverse into four quarters, each containing a Gothic letter or decorative motif within a beaded inner circle. The quarters display letters alternating with fleur-de-lis or star-like ornaments, consistent with Flemish half-groot types of this period. The outer legend in uncial Gothic script reads B`nDIC T:Q:VE nIT:In nE:DI`, an abbreviated rendering of the Scriptural phrase Benedictum qui venit in nomine domini. A beaded border frames both the inner circle and the outer legend, typical of hammered billon coinage of 14th-century Flanders.
