Jacqueline of Bavaria's struggle to retain Holland against Philip the Good of Burgundy produced one of the stranger joint-authority coinages of the fifteenth century. The Delft Agreement of 1428 forced her to accept Philip as regent, and this half groat — the so-called "Kromstaart" — was struck during the uneasy interregnum before her final abdication in 1433, when both names still had to appear on coinage as a political formality neither party was entirely comfortable with.
The Kromstaart designation refers to the distinctive curved tail on a specific letter form in the legend, used by collectors and cataloguers to distinguish this variety from related issues.
