背面描述 Within an inner beaded circle, a crowned thistle occupies the central field, the national emblem of Scotland, surmounted by a small imperial crown consistent with the second coinage type. The thistle head is rendered with characteristic hammered detail, its spiky leaves visible in the field. A Latin legend runs around the periphery between the inner and outer beaded borders, invoking divine protection of the union of England and Scotland. The mint mark appears at the beginning of the legend, and the overall style conforms to the Tower Mint production of James I's second coinage series.

附加信息

James I's second coinage began in 1604 following a revaluation of silver, and the smaller crown variety on the halfgroat reflects an ongoing series of die adjustments made throughout the reign as the mint struggled to maintain consistency across denominations. Spink 2660 sits within a run of issues that spanned well over a decade, meaning dies were recut multiple times — surviving pieces vary noticeably in sharpness depending on where in that production window they were struck.
