| Obverse description | Crowned, draped bust of Charles I facing left, rendered in the characteristic hammered style of the Tower Mint. The Roman numeral II appears to the right of the bust, denoting the halfgroat denomination. A circular Latin legend surrounds the effigy, separated from the bust by a beaded inner circle. The portrait exhibits the loose, flowing hair typical of Group D coinage, surmounted by a plain crown. The overall style reflects the work of Tower Mint engravers active during the 1630s and 1640s. |
