Reverse description Central device comprising an ornate trophy or column topped by a crowned helmet, from which issues a large leaping horse (the arms of Brunswick-Lüneburg) as a crest, all within a wreath of elaborate Baroque scrollwork and foliate ornament. The Latin motto 'EX ADVERSO DECVS' (meaning 'Honour from adversity') is distributed in the field around the central device. The date is divided at the bottom, split across the lower portion of the design beneath the ornamental base. The whole composition is executed in the high Baroque style characteristic of early eighteenth-century German ducats.
