| Reverse description | The Presidential Coat of Arms, as adapted by engraver Frank Gasparro, occupies the central field of the reverse. A heraldic bald eagle with wings spread is depicted facing left, clutching an olive branch in its right talon and a bundle of thirteen arrows in its left; a shield bearing vertical stripes is superimposed on the eagle's breast. Above the eagle, a glory of thirteen radiating rays and a semicircular arc of fifty stars surround a cloud-like crest; the motto E PLURIBUS UNUM appears on a ribbon held in the eagle's beak. The legend UNITED STATES OF AMERICA curves along the upper periphery, while HALF DOLLAR is inscribed along the lower border, separated from the central device by a ring of thirteen stars on each side. |
