Obverse description Bare-headed effigy of King Hussein bin Talal facing left, rendered in high relief within the copper-nickel centre. The portrait shows the King in military collar, with naturalistically modelled facial features and close-cropped hair. An Arabic legend encircles the effigy within the aluminium bronze outer ring, reading from right to left around the full periphery of the coin.

Reverse description Central copper-nickel disc bears the fraction '1/2' in Eastern Arabic numerals at centre, surrounded by an elaborate arabesque foliate ornamental wreath rendered in intricate relief. The aluminium bronze outer ring carries a bilingual legend along the upper arc reading 'THE HASHEMITE KINGDOM OF JORDAN' in Latin script, with 'HALF DINAR' at lower left and 'نصف دينار' (Half Dinar) at lower right in Arabic script. The dual Hijri and Gregorian dates '١٤١٧هـ ~ ١٩٩٧مـ' appear along the lower periphery of the ring.
