| 表面の説明 | A bold cross pattée occupies the full field, its arms extending nearly to the coin's irregular periphery and dividing a two-line Gothic legend into four quadrants. The letters, struck in relief, read ⸰ VI GI LI VS in reference to Virgil, the celebrated poet and patron figure of Mantua. The concave flan gives the design a slightly curved, bracteate-like appearance characteristic of northern Italian communal coinage of this period. The workmanship is consistent with hammered billon issues of the late 13th to early 14th century. |
