| Beschrijving voorzijde | Central field displays a rampant lion to the left, crowned and holding a sword upright in its right forepaw, set within an ornate cartouche or shield representing the arms of Zwolle. Above the shield, decorative foliate or acanthus scroll elements frame the upper field. The encircling Latin legend reads MO: ARG: CIVIT ZWOL· A: L: IMP:, denoting this as the silver coinage of the city of Zwolle struck in accordance with imperial decree. The flan is irregular in shape, characteristic of hammered coinage, with the legend partially weak at the margins due to the striking method. The overall style is consistent with mid-seventeenth-century Dutch municipal hammered silver coinage. |

| Beschrijving keerzijde | Central field depicts a rampant lion to the left, characteristic of the Leeuwendaalder type, shown in vigorous heraldic pose with raised forepaws and open jaws, occupying the majority of the field. The figure is boldly struck though with some weakness attributable to the hammered technique and irregular flan. A circular inscription in Latin surrounds the central device, incorporating the mint date within the legend. The reverse legend reads DA. PACEM: DOM: IN: DIEBVS: NOS: followed by the date 1648 and a floral ornament, translating as 'May the Lord grant us peace in our times.' The overall composition reflects the standard iconographic tradition of the Dutch lion daalder series as produced by the city mint of Zwolle. |
