| Obverse description | Central field displays a rampant lion to the left, crowned and holding a sword upright in its right forepaw, set within an ornate cartouche or shield representing the arms of Zwolle. Above the shield, decorative foliate or acanthus scroll elements frame the upper field. The encircling Latin legend reads MO: ARG: CIVIT ZWOL· A: L: IMP:, denoting this as the silver coinage of the city of Zwolle struck in accordance with imperial decree. The flan is irregular in shape, characteristic of hammered coinage, with the legend partially weak at the margins due to the striking method. The overall style is consistent with mid-seventeenth-century Dutch municipal hammered silver coinage. |
