Reverse description Central field depicts a rampant lion to the left, characteristic of the Leeuwendaalder type, shown in vigorous heraldic pose with raised forepaws and open jaws, occupying the majority of the field. The figure is boldly struck though with some weakness attributable to the hammered technique and irregular flan. A circular inscription in Latin surrounds the central device, incorporating the mint date within the legend. The reverse legend reads DA. PACEM: DOM: IN: DIEBVS: NOS: followed by the date 1648 and a floral ornament, translating as 'May the Lord grant us peace in our times.' The overall composition reflects the standard iconographic tradition of the Dutch lion daalder series as produced by the city mint of Zwolle.
