| Descrizione del rovescio | A large sevenfold quartered shield of arms, incorporating the heraldic devices of the seven United Provinces of the Netherlands, occupies the central field within a beaded inner circle. The date 1595 is prominently placed above the shield, flanked by elements of the surrounding legend. The arms are rendered in fine engraved detail characteristic of late sixteenth-century Dutch hammered coinage, with each quarter displaying the distinctive provincial charges including rampant lions, water waves, and an eagle. The circumscription in the outer field identifies the coin as an issue of the federated provinces struck to imperial standards. |

The Leicester rijksdaalder series takes its name from Robert Dudley, Earl of Leicester, who governed the Dutch Republic as Governor-General from 1586 to 1587 under Elizabeth I's intervention. His administration was a political disaster — resented by the States-General, undermined by his own queen, and effectively abandoned within two years. The coinage struck in his name and during his immediate aftermath reflects the fractured monetary authority of the provinces, each asserting independent minting rights as Spanish pressure intensified.
Friesland's seven-fold arms type signals provincial identity at a moment when that identity was politically loaded. HPM Fr39 is among the scarcer half-daalder attributions from this series.
