Obverse description Imperial double-headed eagle displayed, with both heads crowned and facing outward, bearing on its breast a quartered heraldic shield with the arms of Nijmegen. The eagle's wings are spread and rendered in detailed relief, filling the central field. The whole device is enclosed within a beaded inner circle, with the circular Latin legend running along the outer border.

Reverse description Half-length bust of Emperor Charles V facing right, crowned and draped, with a scepter resting on his right shoulder and his right hand resting on the hilt of a sword. The imperial portrait is rendered in the Renaissance style typical of mid-sixteenth century Low Countries coinage, with considerable detail in the crown and regalia. The effigy is contained within a beaded inner circle, with the Latin titulature legend surrounding the design in the outer border.
