| Beschrijving voorzijde | A Burgundian cross occupies the central field, with a crowned firesteel (flint-and-steel emblem of the Order of the Golden Fleece) at its center, all surmounted by an elaborate crown. The date is divided across the horizontal arms of the cross, reading 15-68. The circumferential legend in Latin runs clockwise around the coin, separated by pellets and a rosette mint mark at top, attributing the coin to Philip II as King of Spain and Count of Holland by the grace of God. The design is executed in the bold, high-relief hammered style characteristic of mid-sixteenth-century Netherlandish coinage, with the cross arms adorned with foliate decoration. |
