The circumferential legend in Latin runs clockwise around the coin, separated by pellets and a rosette mint mark at top, attributing the coin to Philip II as King of Spain and Count of Holland by the grace of God. The design is executed in the bold, high-relief hammered style characteristic of mid-sixteenth-century Netherlandish coinage, with the cross arms adorned with foliate decoration. |
