Southern Rhodesia's switch from silver to copper-nickel for the half crown came in 1947, forced by postwar silver shortages and the broader British Commonwealth move away from silver coinage that same year. The Currency Board — not a central bank — had no independent monetary authority and effectively pegged its decisions to Crown directives from London.
KM#24 is the copper-nickel type; its predecessor KM#19 runs through 1946 in .925 silver. Collectors frequently conflate the two when dates are worn.
