Obverse description Equestrian effigy of King Charles I in armour, holding a baton, riding to the right on a prancing horse, all within a beaded inner circle. The engraver's signature N. BRIOT. F. appears in the exergue beneath the horse. The outer legend reads O REX · DA · FACILEM · CURSVM, a Latin supplication drawn from Virgil, rendered in elegant Roman lettering between the beaded border and the inner circle.

Reverse description Crowned oval shield of the Royal Arms of England, quartering England, Scotland, France, and Ireland, flanked by the date 16-28 in the field on either side. The shield is surmounted by a royal crown and enclosed within a beaded inner circle. The surrounding legend ATQVE · AVDACIBVS · ANNVE · COEPTIS, completing the Virgilian motto from the obverse, is inscribed between the beaded border and the inner circle in crisp Latin lettering.
