Honduras adopted a decimal coinage system in 1879 following the country's monetary reforms under President Marco Aurelio Soto, whose administration was heavily influenced by Guatemalan and broader Central American efforts to standardize regional currency. The half centavo was among the smallest denominations produced under this framework, minted in limited quantities across the decade-long run. Copper fractional pieces from this series saw hard use in local markets and are rarely encountered without significant wear.
