Ceylon's copper fractional coinage of this period served the island's plantation economy, where tea and rubber laborers were paid in small denomination scrip that frequently referenced these coins as base units. The half cent's extended production run across Victoria's reign reflects persistent demand from low-value daily transactions in Colombo's bazaars rather than any single monetary reform.
KM#91 is known with minor date varieties across the three-decade span. The Royal Mint in London struck all issues; no Colombo facility existed for coin production.
