Obverse description A peacock displayed in profile facing right occupies the central field, rendered in a bold, stylised manner characteristic of Georgian hammered copper coinage of the early eighteenth century. The bird's tail and plumage are depicted in a schematic fashion, filling much of the flan. Surrounding the central device, Georgian Mkhedruli letters are disposed around the periphery of the coin, reading B(a)K(a)R, a reference to the reigning king Bakar of Kartli. The legends are crudely struck, as is typical of the hammered fulus coinage of this period, and portions may be partially off-flan due to the irregular shape of the planchet.
