Additional information

Gaurinath Singha's reign saw the Ahom kingdom under sustained pressure from both Moamoria rebels and, increasingly, Burmese intervention — a political siege that would ultimately end with Burmese occupation just years after his death. That these fractional gold pieces were struck at all during such instability is notable. The 1/16 mohur denomination served temple economy and ritual exchange rather than daily commerce, which likely accounts for the survival of examples in better condition than the kingdom's final decades would otherwise suggest.
