Obverse description Armored bust of Philip II, King of Spain, facing right, depicted with short curly hair and a trimmed beard, wearing a ruffled collar and plate armor. The effigy is rendered in a bold, somewhat crude hammered style typical of mid-16th-century Low Countries coinage. A circular Latin legend surrounds the bust, reading PHS · D · G · HISP · Z · REX · DVX · GEL ·, identifying Philip as King of the Spaniards and Duke of Guelders. The date appears in two digits in the lower field, split to either side of a central ornament. The flan is irregular and slightly clipped at the edges, characteristic of hammered coinage of this period.

Reverse description The crowned arms of Guelders occupy the central field, displaying the rampant lion of the duchy within an ornate shield surmounted by a royal crown. Small mullets or stars are scattered in the field surrounding the shield, adding decorative detail typical of Guelders coinage of the period. A circular Latin legend reads DOMINVS MIHI ADIVTOR, encircling the central device. The overall design is characteristic of the Habsburg Low Countries hammered silver coinage of the mid-16th century. The flan is irregular, with the legend partially weak at the periphery due to the hammered striking technique.
