Obverse description Central round hole encircled by a raised ring, surmounted by a crown above. The denomination legend in Latin reads 'ONE TENTH OF A PENNY' and in Arabic script 'عُشِر الپَنّي', arranged around the central hole. The sovereign's titles 'GEORGIVS V REX ET IND: IMP:' appear as the outer circular legend. The mintmark, when present, is positioned immediately below the hole.

Reverse description A bold six-pointed star (hexagram), formed by two interlocking equilateral triangles, dominates the field and surrounds the central round hole, which is framed by a raised concentric ring. The circular legend 'BRITISH WEST AFRICA' runs along the upper periphery, flanked by raised milling at the rim. The date is divided and positioned at the base of the design, split by the lower point of the star, with two small raised dots serving as separators on either side.
