By mid-1922, Georgia had already been absorbed into the Soviet system following the Red Army's invasion of February 1921, yet the Banque Nationale de Géorgie continued issuing notes under its old name while hyperinflation made denominations of this size routine rather than exceptional. The million-rouble figure reflects not wealth but the speed at which the Transcaucasian monetary system was collapsing — the same inflationary spiral that was simultaneously destroying the rouble across the former Russian empire.
Printed locally in Tiflis under constrained postwar conditions, the production quality is noticeably rougher than earlier Georgian issues from the independence period, 1919–1921.
