| Obverse description | Brown on pale tan notgeld issue printed by letterpress on plain paper, with an elaborate guilloche border composed of repeating rosette and lace-pattern elements enclosing the entire face. Four corner medallions each bear a stylised ornamental cross device within a circular guilloche frame. The issuer's name and sub-title appear in bold gothic lettering at the top centre, followed by the payment clause in roman type; the denomination '1 MILLION MARK' is set in large bold letters at centre, with a red serial number printed above it. At lower left the place and date 'MANNHEIM, 15. August 1923' are stated, and at lower right the manuscript signature of the Direktion appears beneath the printed title 'DIE DIREKTION'. |
