German municipal inflation notgeld proliferated rapidly through 1923, but Tübingen's million-mark issue is worth noting for administrative reasons: by the time city authorities completed the bureaucratic process of authorizing, printing, and distributing a denomination this large, the purchasing power it represented had already eroded to nearly nothing. The dry seal — a simple embossed stamp rather than a printed security element — reflects how quickly printers and issuers had abandoned any pretense of sophisticated anti-counterfeiting measures by mid-1923.
The Reichsmark redenomination of November 1923 rendered the entire series worthless at one trillion old marks to one new mark.
