A repetitive scroll-and-volute border frames the entire face. The denomination "1 MILLION MARK" is set in large bold letterpress type at the top, followed by the payment obligation text and the issue date of 15 August 1923; to the lower left, a circular magenta official stamp of the Castrop Magistrat bearing a tower vignette is applied, with two manuscript signatures of municipal officials appearing to its right. |

| Opis rewersu | The reverse is printed in the same dark red-brown on a cream ground with a matching pale ochre floral underprint. The legend "NOTGELD DER STADT CASTROP" runs in bold capitals along both the top and bottom borders. The central field is divided into three horizontal registers: the redemption guarantee text at top, the large bold numeral denomination "1 MILLION" flanked above and below by ornamental scroll rules with "MARK" lettered beneath, and the validity clause at the foot. The lateral margins each carry "1 000 000 MARK" printed vertically. |
