| Obverse description | Printed in dark red-brown on a cream ground, the note carries a floral arabesque underprint in pale ochre throughout the central field. A repetitive scroll-and-volute border frames the entire face. The denomination "1 MILLION MARK" is set in large bold letterpress type at the top, followed by the payment obligation text and the issue date of 15 August 1923; to the lower left, a circular magenta official stamp of the Castrop Magistrat bearing a tower vignette is applied, with two manuscript signatures of municipal officials appearing to its right. |
