The EuroSouvenir program, launched in 2017, occupies an odd niche — zero-denomination notes that are legal-looking but legally nothing, sold directly to visitors as collectibles. Oberthur Fiduciaire prints them to the same technical standards as circulating currency, incorporating genuine security features, which has occasionally drawn scrutiny from central banks wary of anything resembling unauthorized euro-format paper.
Zoo Aquarium de Madrid, one of Europe's older combined zoo and aquarium facilities, joined the program sometime in the 2022–2023 window — precise issue dates for individual souvenir sites within the series are rarely documented with the rigor applied to actual banknotes.
