Oberthur's souvenir euro program has produced hundreds of these tourist notes since the format launched, but the Zagreb entry is among the more recent additions to the Croatian slate — notable mainly because Croatia only adopted the euro in January 2023, making any souvenir denomination tied to the currency genuinely new territory for the country. The Gornji Grad district sits on the upper plateau of the medieval city, the historic administrative and ecclesiastical core, and its selection as subject is unsurprising given it anchors most Zagreb heritage tourism.
Watermarking on these notes is real security paper production, not cosmetic — Oberthur manufactures the substrate at its Chantepie facility using the same fiduciary-grade processes applied to legal tender.
