Oberthur Fiduciaire, the printer here, holds genuine ECB security printing contracts, which is precisely why these novelty issues carry the visual credibility they do despite having no monetary function whatsoever.
The pula is Botswana's national currency, introduced in 1976 to replace the rand at parity. The word means "rain" in Setswana — a blessing in a largely arid country.
