EuroSouvenir notes occupy an odd niche — technically valid collector instruments produced under license from the European Central Bank, which permits their issue provided they cannot be confused with genuine euro banknotes. Oberthur Fiduciaire, one of the major security printers behind actual euro production, handles much of this series, which gives the physical notes a quality that far exceeds their souvenir status.
The Ponte Romana de Trajano at Chaves, in northern Portugal's Trás-os-Montes, spans the Tâmega river and dates to the reign of Emperor Trajan — the same ruler commemorated in the town's Latin name, Aquae Flaviae. The bridge remains in pedestrian use today, over nineteen centuries after construction.
